Case Study: Pixelated VFX

Recreation of the VFX for the character 8Bit from the mobile game Brawl Stars. 

I wanted to take stab at some pixelated effects, taking inspiration from games like PuttPutt on Discord and the various cyber-themed skins from Brawl Stars. My original approach was to animate the pulse in AfterEffects and export as a flipbook, but found driving the animation via texture was cleaner and easier to control. 

Effect built using Unity's Universal Render Pipeline and Amplify Shader Editor. Textures were created and packed using Substance Designer.
